What is Life Coaching?

Life Coaching is a self-development journey, which can be thought of as personal training for the mind and soul. I work in partnership with my clients, empowering and supporting them to learn to connect with their inner wisdom and resources so that they can achieve their personal and professional goals. I practice co-active coaching which involves experiential learning techniques designed to stretch people beyond their comfort zone whilst integrating learning through the whole body. This form of coaching helps clients to identify areas of their lives and thought processes which are not working and create new ones which lead to more authentic and fulfilling lives.

Scientifically it has been proven that it is possible to rewire our brains by changing our thoughts, via a process called neuroplasticity. However, this can be a difficult process without support since our brains default to our old habits and thought patterns. Coaching provides a supportive environment in which the coach works with the client to challenge existing thought patterns to help the client cultivate new behaviours.

 Coaching is not…

Mentoring – mentors offer advice and guidance based on topics related to their own experience. The relationship is typically one of a more experienced mentor advising a less experienced mentee on topics which the mentor has in depth experience to aid the mentee’s professional development. Coaches do not advise but use their skills to challenge, support and champion their clients to help them achieve a wide range of personal and professional goals. The coaching relationship is a partnership of equals, in a safe, supportive environment whereby the coach co-creates with the client to help evoke transformation.

Therapy or counselling – therapy is primarily focussed on helping you to cope with and solve a particular problem or issue, which could include mental health conditions. It can also involve focussing on your past and how it has affected your present. In contrast coaching focuses on how to improve your future by helping you to set and work towards specific goals in the present. Coaches will support and challenge you in service of helping you to achieve your goals, but do not work with people in relation to their mental health conditions. It is important that if you are suffering from a mental health condition that you seek help from an appropriately qualified mental health practitioner such as a psychiatrist or psychotherapist.

What People Are Saying about my workshops

“I joined the vision board workshop to try a fresh approach to starting the new year beyond my usual quickly forgotten New Year’s resolutions. Having the space for reflection was so valuable especially in today’s frantic world. Creating the vision board itself was great fun and I found myself feeling completely lost in flow in the process and enjoying every minute!

Thank you Kelly.”

“Kelly’s workshop on embracing emotions is a great introduction to the topic. She’s able to convey a lot of information in a very accessible way. She leaves you feeling like you have come away with something valuable and useable for your coaching practice. A great combination of theory, practice and discussion.

““Following the workshop I feel very confident and would not hesitate to approach the topic of emotions. I thought your demos were awesome. Not only do I feel more confident in working with my clients, but I also feel more confident in managing my own emotions as well.”
